Raising a Glass
I just can’t stop with the videos. To be fair, I’ve warned you that I get very sentimental this time of year and filled with nostalgia/new start sort of thoughts. This video isn’t much, but there’s a beautiful song in it. It was written by my sister and brother-in-law, Dan White, and also by Harold Forbis (you can hear the song with words, “We Consecrate Our Lives to You”, at this link). Its lyrics seem perfect for this time of year. Despite the huge surge of hope and happiness I feel based on the most recent years, I also remember all the difficult things a year can bring. If you’re like me, you don’t really want to know them, either. It’s better to just face them when they arrive and otherwise hope for the best I think.
I like to buy sparkling grape juice for New Year’s Eve and have a toast with the kids. They think it’s special to drink out of the fancy glasses. As. Do. I. In this clip, John is mostly hidden by the flowers on the table. Other trivia you might like is that John and Drew turned into wild men when they saw they were being filmed. You’ll see it in the tape. And then you can see them immediately cease when I tell them off-camera to FOR GOODNESS SAKE NOT RUIN THIS BEAUTIFUL MOMENT.
So here’s to the New Year. I hope it’s good to all of us.
As we thank you for what you have done / As we look to what you’ll do
We will wait here in your presence, Lord, to consecrate our lives to you
Lord, prepare us for what lies ahead / Do what only you can do
Anoint our eyes to see, our ears to hear / We consecrate our lives to you
Oh, Father, we wait for you / Holy Spirit, Come
Breathe on us / Cover us / Let your will be done

It would NOT have been complete without the extra bit at the end. That is SO life with kids… loved it.
Well, this beats the end-of-the-year Christmas letter! And, are you playing the accompaniment?
Heck no! That’s Dan the Man from his iStill CD.
Or, rather, iPrayers: Still. :)
Your oldest looks so much like his daddy and Jake looks just like you! What a cute family tradition.
Man, I hope to be half the mom you are.
I LOVED this movie, Serenity. What a great way to end the year! I’d forgotten how much I love that song, too. Thanks for the reminder. :-)
Aw. Dear Bohons, please save some adorable for the rest of us! Love, Sarah
Seriously, that was lovely! Especially the last couple of second. :)
I loved your toast to the New Year or your Skål Nyt År! The boys were themselves in every way and I LOVE them for being just that. That pic with Jake walking into school almost made me cry, when I saw the huge backpack and his little legs propelling him toward that oh-such-a-big boy school; I can’t imagine how it makes you feel. But all in all thanks for letting me share your 2010 toast.
Oh, I didn’t help with that song. Its all Harold and Dan.
Well, good thing I didn’t give you any link love then. :)
I teared up watching this. What a beautiful tribute to a loving family. I love videos of your kids.
And I mean that last part not in a stalker way, just in a “aren’t they cute” kind of way. I felt the strangest need to clarify that for some reason.
Ahhhh, this song. Dan, Felic and Harold sang it during communion at my wedding, so it has a special place in my heart.
Beautiful children, beautiful couple, (inside and out) and a wonderful life together. So thankful for that.
Anne, NEVER would have thought stalker about you. You’re sweet to say that, because let’s face it – there’s not much reason for other people to enjoy videos of my kids. But I do it anyway. :) So it’s nice to hear that maybe other people do enjoy them.
Molly, THANK you. Your wedding, I’m thinking?, is the first time I heard the song. BUT I COULDN’T REMEMBER WHAT WEDDING. I kept wanting to make it Dan and Lic’s which didn’t make sense b/c I remembered them singing it. Don’t hate me for not remembering it was yours. We had a lot of weddings in those years…. :) I think it’s such a beautiful communion song!
Also, Bethany! Long time, no hear from! I miss you.
I know! Could there BE a better communion song? I think not. :-)
And no worries, there were seriously a ton of weddings at that time. Who could possibly remember all the details.
This video made me tear up – and then crack up at the last bit. How perfect.
Here’s to 2010 – Happy New Year, Seren!
awwww! Made me tear up. Happy new year!
So sweet … loved it! And, the piano music … gorgeous! Happy 2010!
