It’s summer, the trees have legs again.
I love summer vacation. Grownupland hasn’t done much to change the thrill I get from long hours of daylight and the sound of the chain on our ceiling fan clinking against the glass of the chandelier. I liked the quiet hours after my children went to bed, but now I’m just going to like the quiet hours before they wake instead. Well…minutes really – not hours.
I love the potential of summer, the slowing-down to consider what you might chase again tomorrow. I love the green, green life that’s everywhere and the sound of the ice cream truck and the smell outside that reminds me of picnics at my grandparents’ farm.
I really love being a grownup. It’s better here, because you get to make more of the decisions and take more responsibility for your own comfort and happiness. But this time of year, it’s true. Kids are lucky.
