The Thank You Room

The The Thank You Room is a story from the year I turned twenty-nine and learned I had a rare, aggressive cancer in the soft tissue of my right shoulder only three weeks after learning I was pregnant. Weirdly, I did not get the adventurist surge I would have expected with news like that - the whole bull-riding, sky-diving feeling. When I thought I was dying, I wanted to gather all my people around me and laugh with them and love them and thank them for making life great. The Thank You Room describes them all - in types at least. The people in my thank you room are the people I hope you have in yours. It’s also a great place to find yourself in case you’re the friend or family member of someone in crisis.

This is the story of sarcoma, a baby, and a village.

It’s the story of how we survive together.
